Buffalo Trace Distillery began experimenting with recipes and barrel treatments more than two decades ago. Today, over 30,000 experimental barrels are aging in its warehouses, each crafted with unique variations in mash bill, wood type, barrel toasting and aging conditions.
Every experimental barrel develops a distinct flavor profile influenced by factors such as mash composition, wood species, warehouse environment and maturation time. Selected experiments are occasionally bottled and released in limited quantities, showcasing the artistry of whiskey evolution.
